At the 51st edition of IFFI, Irrfan Khan’s wife Sutapa Sikdar walked down the memory lane and gave an emotional speech as she remembered the time spent with the late actor.
By screening Irrfan Khan’s film Paan Singh Tomar, the 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI) paid a tribute to the late actor’s legacy on January 22, 2021. The film was based on the life of an award-winning athlete who is forced to rebel against the system. It was a perfect homage to Irrfan. The screening was attended by Irrfan’s wife Sutapa Sikdar and their elder son Babil. Irrfan was one of India’s finest and most versatile actors with acclaimed performances in films such as The Namesake, Paan Singh Tomar, Maqbool, Hindi Medium, etc.
On Friday, at IFFI, Irrfan’s wife Sutapa Sikdar walked down the memory lane and gave an emotional speech as she recalled the beautiful time spent with the late actor. In her speech, she said, “Irrfan”s finish line came too soon, but he played well. We’re proud of you, Irrfan.” Sutapa also said that she remembers Irrfan had dreams in his eyes. “It’s a special moment because it’s an honour and privilege to be given a tribute. I’m happy to be here, this is the first time I’ve come out of the home. But one needs closures to walk ahead, and IFFI is a closure. IFFI couldn’t have chosen a better film, because this film talks about a race,” she added.
On January 7, Irrfan Khan’s family, along with Bollywood celebrities remembered the late star on his 55th birth anniversary. In 2018, the actor was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour, a rare form of cancer. He died in Mumbai in April 2020.
