Paul Scholes performs U-turn on Paul Pogba opinion as he highlights key change

Paul Scholes seems to have had a change of heart about Paul Pogba and the impact the midfielder can have at Manchester United.

Pogba’s future has been the subject of much speculation recently, and United were stunned last month when his agent Mino Raiola said his client wanted to leave the club as soon as possible.

The Frenchman’s form has been up-and-down in the last few years, and speaking to talkSPORT in 2019 Scholes suggested it would be no great loss to United if he were to move on.

“I think it’s quite clear he wants to leave the club,” he said at the time.

Paul Pogba scored the crucial winner against Burnley on Tuesday

“If they ask him to stay for a year then we’ll see what happens. But I don’t think it will be a big loss to United [if he does go].

“At the end of the day his form hasn’t been great anyway over the last three or three years he’s been there.

“I’m sure there’s more players there who can step in and do just as good a job.”

However, Pogba has shone since the bombshell statement from Raiola, and scored the winner in the 1-0 victory against Burnley on Tuesday to help fire his side to the top of the Premier League.

In a recent interview with ESPN Scholes was this time full of praise for Pogba, and seemed to suggest he now wants him to stay at Old Trafford.

Paul Scholes has changed his mind about Pogba

And he also claimed the main reason he has improved of late is due to cutting out the “flashy stuff”.

“Ever since his agent said he wanted to leave United last month, he (Pogba) has really performed,” Scholes said.

“He has got his head down, cut out all of the flashy stuff and now looks like the Pogba that plays for France – the one that won the World Cup – in that he keeps it simple and performs consistently.

“I hope it continues because if it does, he can be a player that really makes a difference between now and the end of the season.

It is still unclear whether Pogba will remain at Old Trafford beyond this season

“He has all the ability in the world – he proved that in a good team at  Juventus  and with France – so it is up to him now.

“Ole will wonder at times if he can trust Pogba, but his recent performances have been nothing but positive.”

Pogba will have to be at his very best again on Sunday when United take on bitter rivals Liverpool in a match which could have huge ramifications in this season’s title race.
