Dancing on Ice’s Rufus Hound hits back at criticism he ‘made the show political’

Dancing on Ice 2021 contestant Rufus Hound has silenced viewers who criticised his politically-charged comments on the show.

Making his debut on the ice on Sunday (January 17) alongside his partner, pro skater Robin Johnstone, the former Celebrity Juice panelist noted: “I’ve spent most of this year not emotionally stable because the world does not make sense and this does not make more sense of it.

“We live in a world where the people we elect don’t want to feed hungry children, this is the least mad thing that has happened to me in a long time.”

However, in the aftermath of his message, many fans shared their discomfort on social media over Rufus ‘making the show political’.

Responding to the critics on Twitter following the show, the 41-year-old (real name Robert Simpson) hit back: “To the people who want to be cross with me – you were never going to be my friend. I wish it were different, but such is the world we now live in.

“To everyone else, thanks for all your lovely messages. I will try to keep doing funny ice dances for you x.”

The first episode of the new series saw a result that shocked many viewers as Lady Leshurr and professional partner Brendyn Hatfield found themselves in the bottom and will have to compete in the skate-off next weekend.

Many fans shared their surprise on social media, including former Dancing on Ice champion and ex-Strictly Come Dancing pro, James Jordan.

Dancing on Ice continues this Sunday (January 24) on ITV.
