Covid support ‘discriminates against women’

Campaigners are bringing a judicial review for indirect sexual discrimination on Thursday.

They say the way the self-employed income support scheme or SEISS is calculated- by averaging out profits between 2016 to 19 – is unfair to to around 75,000 women who’ve taken time off in that period for maternity leave. The government insists using a three-year average is the best way of reflecting a self-employed worker’s income.
