19 Disney+ Shows That We Are Ridiculously Excited About

Apparently, 2021 will be the year I cancel all other streaming subscriptions.

There are a lot of streaming services competing for your attention every day.

But that competition is about to be over, because 2021 is shaping up to be a HUGE year for Disney+.

That starts with WandaVision, which just premiered and FINALLY gave us some answers after all those cryptic trailers.

How does Vision look like that? WHAT IS GOING ON???

Here are all the Disney+ shows we recommend, which you can start watching right now:

This is the first of many Marvel shows that we can expect to see on Disney+, and it does not disappoint. The show pays homage to a different decade of sitcoms in each episode, and even though we don’t know exactly how that’s happening (or how Vision is even alive after Infinity War), it’s clear that Wanda’s powers have something to do with it. Wanda and Vision have been supporting characters in the MCU until now, and Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany are making the most out of spotlight. Joining them are Kathryn Hahn and Teyonah Parris, who are absolutely delightful in their roles. The show blends comedy, mystery, and romance, and it’s a welcome return to the MCU.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series

On Pointe

This docuseries about life in the School of American Ballet is intense. The dancers, who all hope to get into New York City Ballet, work extremely hard and push their minds and bodies to the absolute limit, and then they push some more. You’ll walk away from this one learning at least one thing: Ballet is the hardest sport in the world.

This reality show reunites groups of former theater kids and asks them to stage an encore performance of the musicals they performed in high school (with the help of professional directors, choreographers, and vocal coaches, of course). If that sounds like a brilliant concept for a reality show, you are right. Watching adults act like teens on TV is always funny, but it’s also pretty moving to hear the former thespians reflect on their glory days as adults.

The World According to Jeff Goldblum

Jeff Goldblum can make pretty much anything more interesting, so it’s hard to think of a better documentary host. Each episode has a topic — like ice cream, sneakers, or pools — and explains everything you need to know about with the help of science and history experts, all interviewed by Jeff. It’s fun, educational, and a great way to spend a half hour.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

If you call yourself a Star Wars fan, you need to watch Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It takes place between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith from the prequel trilogy, and rectifies some of the more, um, unpopular choices that those movies made. It really fleshes out the characters of Anakin and Obi-Wan while introducing Ahsoka Tano, who is a total badass. All seven seasons are on Disney+.

Now here are the shows that haven’t aired yet, but have us dizzy with anticipation.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

“After being handed the mantle of Captain America at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Sam Wilson teams up with Bucky Barnes in a worldwide adventure that puts their abilities to the test as they fight the anarchist group, the Flag-Smashers.”

It looks like this will be in the vein of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and mix the superhero genre with a bit of political thriller. And at the very least, we know that Sam and Bucky will bring the banter…or at least Sam will, while Bucky glowers.

You can watch the trailer here, and it will premiere on Disney+ on March 19.

“Loki* is brought to the mysterious Time Variance Authority organization after stealing the Tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame, and travels through time altering human history using it, ending up trapped in his own crime thriller.”

*Helpful reminder: this is the 2012 Avengers version of Loki who escaped with the Tesseract in Endgame, not the slightly nicer version whose neck was snapped by Thanos in Infinity War.

Moon Knight

We don’t know too much about Moon Knight other than some basic information about the titular character, who will be played by Oscar Isaac. Here’s the gist: Marc Spector, former Marine turned CIA agent turned mercenary, almost dies after he is betrayed on a job in Egypt. He’s saved by the Egyptian god Khonshu in exchange for becoming his avatar on Earth, which in turn gives him superpowers. The only other thing we know is that Ramy star May Calamawy has recently joined the cast.

Armor Wars

Don Cheadle will return to play Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes in this series, which will see Rhodey confront one of Tony Stark’s greatest fears when Stark Industry technology falls into the wrong hands. Rhodey has been criminally underused in the MCU movies, so it’s about time he gets his own show.

Dominique Thorne will star as young engineer Riri Williams, and that’s basically all we know. However, in case you didn’t figure it out by that title, there’s a pretty strong connection to Tony Stark and Iron Man, which should keep things interesting.

She-Hulk revolves around Bruce Banner’s cousin, played by Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany, who gains superpowers after receiving a blood transfusion from him. Mark Ruffalo will return as Bruce, and Tim Roth will reprise his role as Emil Blonsky aka Abomination from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.

Star Wars: Ahsoka

After making her live-action debut at the end of Season 2 of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka Tano (as played by Rosario Dawson) will be the main character of her own show. This is just one of three (!!) new shows set in the timeframe of The Mandalorian — the other two are Rangers of the New Republic and The Book of Boba Fett.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Ewan McGregor will be back to play Obi-Wan in a series that takes place 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, and he’ll be joined by Hayden Christensen, aka Anakin from the prequels, as Darth Vader. Given how things ended between the two of them in Episode III, it’s gonna be pretty amazing to see them together again.

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder

The Proud Family is coming back! A blessing for us all. This reboot will reunite all of the original voice cast behind the Prouds, as well as Penny’s besties Dijonay, Zoey, and LaCienega. Joining them will also be Keke Palmer playing a new character called Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, who will initially have some issues with Penny (Kyla Pratt). This is one reboot that can’t come soon enough.

Kristin Chenoweth will play Carol Dannhauser, a Wisconsin mom and waitress whose proudest achievement is being the star of her local community theater. Her stardom is immediately threatened when a struggling New York chorus girl moves back home, and competitive hijinks ensues. This seems like a role Kristin Chenoweth was born to play, and I can only hope she sings in every single episode.

And finally, First Gen

Insecure‘s Yvonne Orji will write and executive produce this half-hour comedy, based on her own experiences growing up as a Nigerian immigrant in America, struggling to honor her culture while assimilating to a new country. She’s terrific on Insecure, but Yvonne’s standup special Momma I Made It will show just how funny she is and give you high hopes for this show.
